There are collections of local studies resources at most Essex libraries. These include books on local towns and villages. Larger collections may also have newspapers on microfilm, maps, census returns and illustrations, relating to the local area.
The main county collection at Colchester Library contains resources relating to the whole of Essex and to individual towns and villages throughout the county. You can also visit the Essex Record Office in Chelmsford or visit their website.

There are fascinating accounts of sailing in the Orwell, Stour and Blackwater rivers with diversions on cruising in Holland and attempts to build a marina at Walton on the Naze. Essex readers will enjoy the descriptions of cruising and racing in local waters.
