*Dorothy L Sayers Centre
Statue of Dorothy Sayers in Witham

The centre holds a reference collection of works by and about the author, Dorothy L Sayers, who lived in Witham for nearly 30 years. It is housed in a specially furnished room on the upper floor of Witham Library.

As well as the novels and stories featuring the famous detective Lord Peter Wimsey, the Centre holds other Sayers works including her plays, poems and essays, and also her well-known translation of Dante's Divine Comedy. Works of biography and criticism are well represented, covering many titles not easily available in the UK.

The collection includes a copy of much of the Archive of the Society, covering press-cuttings, reviews and letters.

The Centre was opened in 1992 and is jointly managed by Essex Libraries and the Dorothy L Sayers Society.
